First Wine of the New 2012 Harvest!

The French are Coming! The French are Coming!

First wine of the new 2012 harvest – Beaujolais Nouveau – debuts at

30th Anniversary wine event on Nov. 15

(Scottsdale, Ariz. – Nov. 7, 2012) – The 30th Anniversary of Beaujolais Nouveau will be celebrated in true French style at a wine event at AJ’s Fine Foods on Thursday, Nov. 15.   Beaujolais Nouveau refers to the first wine of the new harvest and ushers in the new vintage year (in terms of wine).

According to the harvest report from Georges Duboeuf (known as “the king of Beaujolais), the 2012 Beaujolais Nouveau is “Vibrant, fruit-forward and best chilled. The perfect wine for Thanksgiving, it will enchant your palate.”

The 30th Anniversary Celebration will be held at AJ’s Fine Foods in Scottsdale (corner of Lincoln and Scottsdale) on Thursday, Nov. 15, with a magician, mime and French recording artist Cecilia Hortensia.  Wine tasting of the Beaujolais Nouveau will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to the public.

Beaujolais Nouveau is a red wine made from Gamay grapes produced in the Beaujolais region of France. It is the most popular vin de primeur, fermented for just a few weeks then officially released for sale on the third Thursday of November.  It is a purple-pink wine that is particularly lightweight, even by the standards of Beaujolais. The method of production means that there is very little tannin, and the wine can be dominated by fruity, ester flavours of bananas and pear drops. These are enhanced by the frequent recommendation to serve the wine lightly chilled, at approximately 13°C (55°F).
